Um. Derp...
Right.  Congrats to Cameron for his second 4-0 in a row!  Sorry for the late update again.

I would like to address an issue that I shouldn't need to.  But anyways, here it is.  Cheating and/or Douchebaggery is absolutely NOT tolerated in League.  Don't be a jerk.  Don't make your opponent feel bad for the games he/she just played with you.  It doesn't matter if you think you're a better player, it doesn't matter.  League is a fairly casual environment.  It is not a Pro Tour Qualifier or a major cash tournament.  Southern Ontario has a terrible group of competitive players when it comes to such events.  The behaviour of local competitive players is HORRIBLE and, in my opinion, completely unacceptable.  Not to mention most of the crap will get you at least a Warning if it were on camera.  As a Judge, I've made it my personal mission to prevent that kind of behaviour wherever I see it.  So obviously, I can't have any of that in my own League.

It's also my responsibility to make sure everyone feels comfortable at League.  I created League to introduce casual players to a more competitive and organized environment.  So if you feel uncomfortable or you don't understand something, let me know.  Call me over to your game, call Judge, do whatever you need to do.  I'll explain what's going on or provide a fix to the situation.  That's what I'm here for.  YOU.

Howdy y'all,

I hope everyone enjoyed our first Team Event!  We had all 5 guilds show up with teams of 3 players each.  Those who weren't participating played Horde instead.  Horde gave bonuses capped at 50 Exp/100 I.  Congratulations to Golgari for going 3-0-1 as a team and scoring first place by 1 match win over Selesnya (also 3-0-1).  Thanks to everyone for coming out!

Next Event

Event 5 is a Block Constructed Team Event!  Each Guild will form a Team of 3.  The decision lies with your Captain (the player in your Guild with the highest Influence, currently).  Your Captain will submit a roster to me.  The roster will fix 3 players to Seat 1, 2 and 3.  During the event, Guilds will face off in single matches, 3 vs 3.  The Guild that wins 2 matches out of 3 first, wins.  There will still be 3 Rounds.  Players may only help their teammates when their own matches are over.  No interfering in a match until your own is done.

Each Seat will receive different bonuses upon winning their match:

Seat 1 wins bonus Experience and Influence.  Seat 2 wins bonus Influence.  Seat 3 wins bonus Experience.

Seat 1 players will face each other, Seat 2 players will face each other and Seat 3 players will face each other.  Seating cannot be changed after your roster is submitted.  Those players not playing in the main event will be able to participate in either Horde or another variant.  All players will have a chance to win bonuses for their Guilds.  For an explanation of Horde:  Mothership Article.

Entry Fee:  $2 per player for the Main Team Event.  Each Team pays as a whole ($6) or does not pay at all.  No fee required for side events.

Howdy.  Hope y'all were safe during the storm.  16 brave individuals weathered the rain and played in Event 3.  Congratulations to Eric Sturm, Ben Cope and Hakim for placing in the Top 3.  Thanks to Ryan for representing Azorius, as he was the only player of his Guild in attendance!  A reminder:  Your rank does not affect cards you can use in your deck, only cards you can contribute towards unlocking.  In other words, even if it's your first event, you can use all the cards your Guild has unlocked.

Hello everyone.  I've been extremely busy with work this week as I have shifts from Tuesday to Sunday.  I haven't had time to update League much.  A reminder:  Intangible Virtue and Lingering Souls are banned.

Innistrad League - Revamp after Event 15 and 16

After Kessig's surrender to Nephalia, the future of League seemed precarious and unbalanced.  Projections and simulations for the next couple of months were bleak and unfun.  I've made an executive decision to revamp league.  Territories will be redistributed to West and East.  Overlapping unlocks will be refunded.


Teams

There are now 2 teams, Innistrad West and Innistrad East.
Shane Flynn has been promoted to Captain of Innistrad West.
His team includes:  Tai Ju, Cameron Yeates, SooHyun Lee, Ricky Huynh and Sean Brackenborough.
800 Gold, 7 Horde Tokens.

Alexander Switzer has been promoted to Captain of Innistrad East.
His team includes:  Nolan Raess, Steve Chui, Curtis Bowman, Michael Black and Sunny Thisai.
900 Gold, 8 Horde Tokens.

If any team brings extra players not on this list, they must pay for each player to participate (in gold).
Myself, Ben Cope and Joseph Luong will play as GMs.  We will facilitate Quests, act as backups occasionally and independently attack Territories.  Each GM will also have a bounty.  If you defeat the GM, you take all of his Gold for your team.

Innistrad League - Event 14

Howdy, y'all.

At last Friday's event, we played 1 round of League and 3 rounds of Swiss.  Ben and Joe both finished 3-0 in the Swiss, and each will be awarded 100 Gold.  Nolan finished 2-1 and will be awarded 50 Gold.

In the future, I plan to maintain the current layout of League and speed up the rounds.  I want to encourage playing at a reasonable pace.  Also, I recently passed my Rules Advisor test.  I'll try to obtain Judge Level 1 in a month or so.  Gotta read them Comprehensive Rules. 

For League to be more fun, we need more players.  Try to get people who play Magic outside of League to join.  I would very much like to expand League.  If you're part of any other groups, please tell them to spread the word.

For this week's event, I will require your DCI numbers.

We had a great all day event last Friday.  We started off with 3 rounds of Swiss (and 9-10 players).  Ben and Joe finished 3-0 and will each be awarded 100 Gold.  Tai and Curtis finished 2-1 and will each be awarded 50 Gold.  After Swiss, it was time for Horde.  After a couple rounds, we decided to forgo the League rounds and continue playing Horde for the rest of the night.  With 2 Horde decks, we had 8 players playing at all times.

After 8+ Rounds of Horde, we decided to call it a night.  Because we had so many Horde games, I'm limiting the awarded tokens to:  1 Token per Team per Table.  Also, because one table had an unfair advantage (including 14 copies of Sever the Bloodline and a miscommunication of card drawing/banned cards rules), there will be 25% less tokens rewarded.

1 Round of income (Gold) will accumulate for last week.

P.S. Nolan's cube night on Tuesday:  Derek (representing Kessig) didn't lose a single game.  He earns Kessig another Horde token.

Innistrad League - Event 11 & 12

Hello everyone and sorry for the late update.  As you may know, I did written coverage for the Canadian Magic Tour in Toronto a couple of weekends ago.  I've been a little busy since then, as I didn't attend this week's event either.  But now, it's Reading Week!

Event 11 was Block Constructed, Event 12 was DKA-ISD-ISD Draft.

Event 11 saw Nephalia's ascension into power as they became the leader in Gold generated per Round (exculding Gavony's penalty).  All prize packs were awarded to Nephalia and Stensia.  Stensia still holds parts of Moorland Haunt and Hanweir in Gavony's North.  The vampire nobility have also launched an offensive around to the south towards Isolated Chapel in an effort to stabilize their own mana base.  On the other side of Innistrad, Nephalia has conquered over half of Kessig's territories.

Gavony has been penalized for an Illegal Deck problem.  Grim Backwoods was not unlocked, but used in a player's deck.  At time of purchase, they did not have enough gold to unlock the card.  I awarded 2 control points, in an adjacent territory, to Stensia.

Innistrad League - Event 10

Dark Ascension!

As we explored the use of these new Dark Ascension cards, we discovered something:
Lingering Souls is too powerful in our customized format.  It's like Invisible Stalker.  You can interact with it, but are still at a disadvantage no matter how you do so.  I also brought in my good friend Steve Roias (We draft and go to FNM at Hairy Tarantula).  He piloted my experimental Esper Tokens deck.  I respect his opinion greatly, and he also agrees that Lingering Souls is unfair in the format.  A thank you to Ben for bringing this up first for everyone to consider on the League page. 

Summary:  Lingering Souls is banned.  You have received a refund on resources.

I was notified of Alix's likely withdrawal from the League recently.  This means Stensia is short a player.  Kessig has also been short a number of players for a long time.  We're adding Steve Roias to Kessig and Nolan Raess to Stensia.  Nolan will stand in as a player (not a GM) for now, until we get some fresh blood in the League.  On that note, new League participants are always welcome!

This week, I didn't type up any feature matches.  Instead, we played Horde!  We were also treated to an impromptu Two-Headed Giant game:  Mike and Sean of Kessig vs Ben and Tai of Nephalia.  This Best-of-3 Match lasted 2 Rounds to determine control of Ulvenwald.  Nephalia emerged Victorious from the pitched battle 2 games to 1.

How Two-Headed Giant happens:  Ulvenwald has 2 control points.  Ben and Tai both made an Attack on Ulvenwald.  Mike attacked Ulvenwald as well (None of the control points were occupied previously), with Sean on defense for the Round.  There were more attacks than control points on the territory (3 attackers, 1 defender).  As a defender, Sean would have been paired with one of the attackers.  Attackers are paired with defenders when determining opponents for a match.  Attackers cannot be paired with each other for regular matches.  So, a Two-Headed Giant game happens.  Unlike the first time it happened, this was accidental and an unintended challenge.

The final event of Innistrad-only Block Constructed is over! Dark Ascension will be legal for use in Event 10!

Stensia and Gavony are locked in an ongoing border clash.  Neither Stensia nor Gavony have managed to gain any ground permanently since the end of Event 6.  Also, there were no prizes for this week.
